Taling Chan Floating Market
is one of the most popular tourists destination for both foreigners and local visitors by the reason of convenience to arrive. It locates opposite of Taling Chan District Office, Thonburi, Bangkok on which opens on Saturday and Sunday. In the Floating Market there are small shops sale food, fruits, clothes and hand-made souvenirs.
But the highlight is a lot of Thai foods, sea-food, fresh fruits, deserts sold from venders on boat, the traditional Thai floating market, and eating tables are provided on quay. If we’d like more fun we can ride on boat to both next to markets, Khong Lat Ma Yom, and Bang Sa Phan floating markets including orchid garden.

By bus:

Take the Bus no.79 from the Government Lottery Office and tell bus boy that we will go to “floating market” in Thai “Ta Lad Ngam” you won’t miss it.

But today I rode my buddy named “Blue” only 10 minutes from my place on Charansanitwong Rd. From Charansanitwong road I turned to Bang Khun Noon crossway headed to Chak Phra road, see the map above.

Arrived at 8 am I thought it was too early but the market quite crowded.

Some shops didn’t open, nobody was in tourist boats but around floating market was busy already.

So, it’d be better to fill my stomach now, after looking around, how about Mei Khrop? Oh no, too light for me.

Crispy dumpling? No, not enough!

What’s about noodle?

Kanom Jeen(Thai Spicy soup noodles: rice noodle with vegetables. ) were tempting!

Well, Kanom Jeen Sao Ngam(sweet and sour Northern style noodle: rice noodle with pineapple.) was my choice.

While eating Sao Ngam noodle my eyes accidentally saw Som Tum(Thai Spicy Salad or Pa Pa Ya Pok Pok .), Yumm

Or steam Crap???

Some soft drink was better for now!!

After walking around for a while then looked back to the entrance there were more tourists than I thought. I saw some people were feeding fish or should I feed fish to make merit, oh next time better! Many days left until the end of the month.

But reddish fresh tomatoes in Som Tum did my mouth watering…

Then I heard the vender on the boat shouted “Ma Lai May Pay” “Wan Nee Wan Pra” !

“Ma Lai May Pay” means “Do you want some garland, Mister?”
“Wan Nee Wan Pra” ! means “Today was Buddish’s day”

I may tell you that Pee or Pay means old brother or sister but Thais use for showing respect to senior people or customers.

Senier people? Should I be glade to be called “Pay”??

Took my eye back on Mee Khrop Phewww, Ok! One pack, but not now, before leaving I would get it.

To show how it fresh the vendor fried and packed Mee Khrop there.

This not for eat but for making merit, let them back into the river.

Then I decided to visit 3 market tour, the sooner the better.

Whoa Whoa Wait wait for me! Oops! Luckily, it’s not the boat of my ticket.

The boat tour was great but I had to complain about how fast it was. It’s difficult to
take photos so I could only use automatic mode.

Hello Halloo, Is anybody there?

Some very old riverside houses had people live inside, some were closed.

Boat is still important and necessary for people living here.

The house pier was maintained in Thai classic style the same as the day it was.

The traditional environment of the Khlong (cannel) remained the same as the day it was that questioning my sight was this place in Bangkok?

There are some new houses were built to replace the old ones.

However, some old house were maintained to keep their classic style and useful functions.

Old and new windows and ventilators that realized to make combination were connected by the gable of the door.

Life on boat was usual here.

This girl was called Angle of Taling Chan. She was here at the same time every Saturday and Sunday waving to tourist (Information from the guide).

After waving to say hello, she don’t forget to greet in Thai way, cute!

Leisurely seeing view along the cannel until arriving at Klong Lud Mayom Floating Market.

The greenery of plants alongside of the cannel profited cooler temperature for eveyone.

Old style coffee vender worked the same way he was.

At last the boat was at the pier of klong Lud Mayom Floating Market.

I believed that many of Bangkok metropolitans had never seen the golden ripped papayas like this!

We had 30 minus here, so I headed to the end of market because of the sign written “ Rong Kheay” means “Buffalo Farm”. At the present this place was closed, no buffalos.

But the day I visited, this guy was there gazing at me, oh, what now!

In a sudden! Oops! He just kidding me, phewwww.

Were these your friends or family member?

A shot of Girl and Buffalo, er….were they sulking each other?

Steps not so far, over there were very old rental bungalows closed business
for long time ago.

Walking back to the pier there were hand-made souvenir shop on the van and
other street vendors.

This might be lady’s don’t miss!, colorful plastic weaving stuffs; bags, hats, baskets, etc. About the price? they all were affordable.

And there were some activities for people and family to have fun.

Children didn’t think it was such a fun it was art working! But I thought I was interesting for family.

After observation family attention here, I was back to have some drink at the pier. Cheers! with a cold bottle of Keck Huay(Chrysanthemum tea)

Sitting there for a while I saw the old dock belonged to the house nearby. It might be usual for other people but I thought it was classic way of life.

And It was time to go to the next market.

People passing by in the cannel were always friendly greeting to each others hardly ever met in the city markets or in shopping malls.

Today was very bright blue sky, that was great for my landscape style photography, unluckily the boat I rode was too fast.

Flowers planted for welcoming tourist especially

A modern new house was painted with bright color attract visiter’s sights.

Not only new houses were beginning seen along the cannel but also the spreading of water area from the water border shown the changing of the environment.

At last, arrived to Bang Sa Phan Floating Market

A lot of street vendors preparing foods and souvenirs for tourist arrivals.

New parsonage was built next to the classic old one as the replacement.

This brand new chapel was golden bright and beautiful but be careful of dog shit around here guys!

Moving out off Bang Sa Phan temple with a bottle of drinking water, I was ready to fish feeding at Southern Pak Nam temple.

Nearly the temple, there was an astonish red house.

The boat stopped here for feeding food to fish but I couldn’t take any shoot because of a number of splashes.

After feeding fish the boat took us back to Taling Chan Floating Market that was the end of the tour.

When I arrived the market it was so clouded but I was a bit hungry, some hot Ka Nom Tan(Sugar palm steam cake.) was a good idea, Yummm.

But this way there was juicy mango, ummmm…

Yellowish Star fruits made mouth watering!

Or gradually eat a cup of colorful Jello on ice? I didn’t be hurry, It’s just 1 pm. Today I did a lot!, I had just visited 3 markets, the rest of the day was the profit for life.

Adjacent to the market there was a pool surrounded by public park offer to visitors.

Sweet color of flowers here did fresh me up for this weekend.

If you would like a day trip in Bangkok Taling Chan Floating Market was a good choice offering attractions and activities.
